DIEN BIEN (Biz Hub) — Panasonic yesterday donated 630 solar lanterns to ethnic minority households, in the north-western province of Dien Bien, who have no access to electricity.
A solar lantern, charged for six hours, can emit light for up to 90 hours, said Eiji Fukumori, general director of Panasonic Viet Nam.
The company is expected to donate 2,000 solar lanterns and more to high mountainers in the country.
The project is part of the firm's global project to supply 100,000 solar lanterns to remote mountainous areas. It has been launched in 11 countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and several African nations. It will run until 2018. — VNS
