In China, the benchmark Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index (SHCOMP) jumped 10.02 points to reach 2,060.50, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index (HSI) lost 298.31 points to close at 21,923.70. The Straits Times Index (STI) lost 18.88 points to finish on 3,222.9.
Investors in Japan enjoyed had a good day, with the Nikkei 225 (NKY) climbing 143.02 to end at 14,401.06, and the Topix Index (TPX) gaining 8.92 points to close at 1,193.66. — VNS
