POSCO Energy Co has been received in-principal approval from the Government to develop a thermal power plant that will cost approximately US$2.5 billion in central Nghe An Province.

Quynh Lap II thermal power plant will be built using the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) method in Dong Hoi Industrial Zone, Hoang Mai Commune. It will produce an annual power capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW), with two reactors, baodautu.vn reports.

The State has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to work with Posco Energy on the plant’s development, with top priority given to avoiding environmental pollution.

The energy arm of South Korea’s steel giant Posco completed construction and started operations of Mong Duong II coal-fired thermal power plant in Quang Ninh Province in October 2015. — VNS
