The Saigon Union of Trading Co.operatives (Saigon Co.op) has launched four groups of organic products meeting international standards under its Co.op Organic brand name.
From May 8 it started selling the products, which meet US and EU organic standards, at seven supermarkets in HCM City – Co.opmart Ly Thuong Kiet, Co.opmart Cong Quynh, Co.opmart Dinh Tien Hoang, Co.opmart Nguyen Kiem, Co.opmart Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Co.opmart Phu My Hung, and Co.opXtra Tan Phong inside SC VivoCity.

The products sold in this first phase include Jasmine and Japonica rice; cucumber, squash, tomato; choy sum, mustard green, water spinach; basa fish fillet and black tiger shrimp.
All have received USDA and EU organic certification for having no chemical fertilisers, pesticides, stimulants, hormones, preservatives or genetically modified components.
The biggest advantages of organic foods are they are better for health, have high nutritional value and natural flavours and bring environmental benefits .
After launching the Co.op Organic labelled products meeting US and EU standards, Saigon Co.op will continue to expand its list of organic products for both food and non-food products to satisfy market demand, and strive to become a leading player in the organic products production-processing-distribution-consumption chain in the Viet Nam and export markets. — VNS
