Besides offering sharp discounts on products for Tet (Lunar New Year holiday) like sweets, foods, beverages, fashion products and kitchen utensils, Co.opmart and Co.opXtra supermarkets are also offering ready-to-eat products at good prices.
The supermarkets said more customers were choosing to buy ready-to-eat products because they help save time and are considered clean and safe.
For the Lunar New Year holiday, besides typical Tet products like banh chung (square glutinous rice cake), banh tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake) and five-fruit trays, there are two traditional dishes of the south – thit kho tau (braised caramelised pork with eggs) and kho qua don thit (pork stuffed bitter cucumber) – on sale at the two supermarkets in HCM City and the southeastern region.
Orders for these dishes have become more popular with customers each year, according to the supermarkets.

The braised caramelised pork with eggs is cooked without using industrial colouring to create colour. Instead, the supermarkets use cooking oil, sugar and fresh coconut water to create a glistening golden colour and sweet and delicious taste.
Nga, a customer in District 6, said in the last two years she had placed orders to buy braised caramelised pork with eggs at Co.opmart Phu Lam because of its delicious, home-style taste and its lack of artificial colouring.
She said she would order the dish again this year and buy cylindrical glutinous rice cakes and pickled vegetables at the supermarket.
Customers can place orders for the dishes from now at Co.opmart and Co.opXtra outlets, and delivery would be taken until noon on January 27 (Lunar New Year Eve).
The current price for a small box of braised caramelised pork with eggs is VND94,500 each. The price is expected to fall in the two days before Tet. — VNS
