Thai BJC BigC Group, which owns MM Mega Market, tabled a number of initiatives to foster economic growth, sustainability and community development in Việt Nam at a meeting with HCM City People's Committee vice chairman Nguyễn Văn Dũng on Friday.
Aswin Techajareonvikul, BigC Group’s CEO and president, said BJC BigC aims to be the leading Thai company in the global market in six sectors: packaging, consumer goods, healthcare, technical, modern trade, and retail management.
It has consolidated its presence in Việt Nam through long-term investments of more than US$1 billion through its subsidiaries like Thai Corp International (Vietnam), Ichiban Foods, Malaya Vietnam Glass, TBC-Ball Beverage Can, BJC Cellox, Thái An Group, MM Mega Market, and Vina Paper, he said.
Talking about its strategic objectives in Việt Nam and HCM City in the coming years, he said the group plans to expand both shopping mall and supermarket chain MM Mega Market .
It seeks a joint venture or franchising with State-owned enterprises and other retailers, he said.
It seeks to work with the Government and HCM City for the Giá Tốt Programme (Donjai Programme in Thailand) to transform traditional mom-and-pop stores into modern retail ones, he said.
He emphasised the company’s commitment to keeping MM Mega Market Vietnam the pioneer of green retail.
Speaking at the meeting, Dũng highly appreciated the activities and contributions of businesses under BJC BigC Thailand in Việt Nam and HCM City, especially MM Mega Market Vietnam.
Relevant city agencies would co-ordinate with and support MM Mega Market in implementing its business plans, he added. — VNS
