More than 600 truck and bus drivers took part in Driver Care Day organised for the first time in Viet Nam in HCM City on November 8 and 9.

During the event, also held in Ha Noi, drivers received free health check-ups and haircuts, and participated in interesting games.

More than 130 trucks and 250 buses in HCM City and Ha Noi were checked.

Jointly organised by the National Traffic Safety Committee, Benh Vien O To, Michelin Vietnam, GS Vietnam and Fuso, the event gives drivers an opportunity to share driving experiences and provides them with information about health protection. The event also aims to change the public’s attitude toward bus drivers.

At Driver Care Day 2016, the Driver Care Foundation was established to provide care for drivers’ health and safety. At the events, organisers proposed establishing a National Drivers’ Day to show respect for a driving career.

A survey, conducted this year of more than 1,000 drivers in 10 provinces and cities, showed that 67 per cent of drivers said they were not respected by the public. — VNS
