HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Thirteen credit institutions bought almost 1 tonne of gold from the State Bank of Viet Nam 52nd gold auction on Tuesday.
With 25,700 taels bought in today's auction, the State Bank has sold nearly 1.5 million taels, nearly 54 tonnes in its continuous auctions since March. At this auction, gold traded in the range of $1,798-1,801 per tael.
On the local market, the Saigon Jewellery Company (SJC) posted its gold prices at between 37.65-37.96 million ($1,789-1.807) on its website at 3pm, easing on the morning session. However on the kitco.com trading floor, the selling price for gold climbed to $1337.10 per ounce, or $1,611 a tael, leaving gold prices in Viet Nam $196 higher per tael than global rates.
On the forex market, some commercial banks were paying more for the US dollar but had reduced the asking price. Vietcombank listed the greenback selling/buying prices at VND21,075/21,125, as much as VND5 more for each dollar for a bid, and less VND10 for an ask. Similar actions were recorded at other banks.
On the free market, the US dollar was trading lower at VND21,200 per dollar.—VNS
