Tepid trading continues to depress shares

HA NOI (VNS)—Trading was slow this morning on both stock exchanges with market values continuing to fall on mounting investor pessimism.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange fluctuated by about 500 points, closing low at 499.95 points, off 0.13 per cent, by the end of the morning.

Only 13.8 million shares worth just VND261 billion (US$12.4 million) were traded.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 95-63 while 148 shares were unmoved.

Blue chips failed to lift investor psychology as the VN30 monitoring trading of the top 30 shares by market capitalisation and liquidity was also down 0.09 per cent at 551.79 points.

FLC Group (FLC), which has just moved to the VN30 from the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, was the most active code this morning with 1.3 million shares changing hands at VND5,400 a share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index (HNX) also declined 0.09 per cent to 61.64 points as decliners edged out advancers by 74-29 (another 278 closed flat.)

Market value was low at VND60.34 billion ($2.9 million) on a volume of 7.6 million.

Kim Long Securities Co (KLS) was the only share to see trades of over 1 million shares, being the most active code with 1.57 million exchanged at VND8,400 a share.
