Commercial and industrial companies in Viet Nam are increasingly opting to install rooftop solar panels and using the electricity generated to reduce dependency on the grid, according to the company Trina Solar.

Viet Nam last year installed 9.3GW of rooftop solar with about 80 per cent in the agriculture sector and 20 per cent commercial and industrial rooftop solar, Trina Solar said.

“We see that in 2021 there will be strong growth in commercial and industrial rooftop solar thanks to the fact that new industrial parks were built in Viet Nam last year and industrial parks in the country have been early adopters of solar energy,” Trina Solar Asia Pacific President Todd Li said.

Rooftop solar helps commercial and industrial businesses be energy self-sufficient, reducing their dependence on the grid as well as reducing CO2 emissions and air pollution, Trina Solar one of the world's top PV and smart energy total solutions providers, said in a statement.

“Rooftop solar is ideal for industrial and commercial businesses because their energy consumption peaks during the day when electricity generated from the solar modules also peaks,” Li added.

Solar cells that are 210mm in diameter are now the new industry standard. Trina Solar’s 550W Vertex modules for commercial and industrial rooftops have a high-power density thanks to larger solar cells that are 210mm in diameter. Larger solar cells produce more energy than earlier generation solar cells that are 158mm and 166mm in diameter.

The 550W Vertex modules are also designed to cope with various weather conditions including hot and humid conditions that are common in parts of Viet Nam. — VNS
