Vietnam Airlines (VNA) is partnering with the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the National Expanded Immunisation Programme to transport vaccines free of charge.
It is estimated that around 7.4 million doses of various vaccines, weighing approximately 20 tonnes, will be transported by Vietnam Airlines. The first flights for vaccine delivery started in January 2024.
Đặng Anh Tuấn, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines, expressed the company's commitment to taking care of people's health and reducing the risk of disease transmission. As a national carrier, they consider it their social responsibility to contribute to the well-being of the community.
Việt Nam has been implementing the expanded programme on immunisation nationwide since 1985, providing free vaccinations for children and pregnant women. Each year, millions of individuals receive free vaccinations against diseases such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, polio, measles, rubella, encephalitis, pneumonia, and purulent meningitis caused by Hib bacteria.
This collaboration between Vietnam Airlines and the immunisation programme is a commendable effort to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of vaccines, thereby supporting the country's public health objectives. — VNS
