The national carrier Vietnam Airlines and Garuda Indonesia inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on developing co-operation in Jakarta.

The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the official visit of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Indonesia on Wednesday.

Under the MoU, the two sides will launch a codeshare partnership for routes Ha Noi – HCM City, Ha Noi/HCM City - Singapore, Singapore - Jakarta/Bali and Jakarta – Bali and seek co-operation opportunities in service supply, maintenance technology and goods transport.

The move is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and multilateral co-operation of the two airlines in the Skyteam – SkyTeam, the world’s second biggest airline alliance.

Vietnam Airlines was granted certificate of four-star standard airline by SkyTrax, a UK–based consultancy which runs an airline and airport review and ranking site, in 2016. Meanwhile, the Garuda Indonesia gained the SkyTrax’s five-star standard airline in 2014. —  VNS
