The first phase of a VND500 billion (US$22 million) timber processing factory opened in the central Quang Nam Province’s Hiep Duc District on Saturday.

Financed by Quang Nam Industry Wood Joint Stock Co, the 18ha-factory will provide 75,000 cubic metres of products annually in its first phase.

In the second phase, the plant is expected to produce 200,000 cubic metres of products, making it the largest in the central and central highland regions.

In his speech at the plant’s opening ceremony, Quang Nam People’s Committee vice chairman Le Tri Thanh spoke highly of the province’s untapped potential for the development of the wood processing industry.

The operation of the plant would help ensure stable output for the province’s large timber growing areas, he said. — VNS
