HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Vietjet announced on March 29, financial assistance to passengers with train tickets to and from HCM City between April 15 and June 30, when Ghenh Bridge is being repaired.

Passengers will receive a VND100.000 (US$4.5) discount for each one-way flight with duration less than one hour and thirty minutes while passengers will get a discount of VND150.000 ($6.7) for longer flights.

According to Vietjet, passengers can contact railway ticket agencies listed on the airline's website www.vietjetair.com to purchase these supportive air tickets, starting from April 10.

The airline denied the news published by several media that it sold airfares for passengers affected by the collapse of the Ghenh Railway Bridge with prices equalling those of train tickets.

The collapse of the Ghenh Railway Bridge in Dong Nai Province, which occurred after a barge collided with it on March 20, has virtually cut off the main rail link between the south and north.

Several trains had been stranded at Sai Gon Railway Station after the accident, and others coming in from the Northern and Central regions had been stopped at Bien Hoa Railway Station in Dong Nai.

According to the Viet Nam Railway Corporation, right after the bridge collapsed, 18 trains scheduled to run in both directions were affected. Officials said 1,400 passengers had to be taken to Bien Hoa from Sai Gon Station and 1,500 other were brought the other way around using shuttle buses. — VNS
