HCM CITY — FV Hospital has announced it would acquire CyberKnife S7, the world’s only robotic radiosurgery system capable of treating tumors anywhere in the body without surgery, for VNĐ200 billion (US$7.7 million), the first medical facility in all of Southeast Asia to do so.

At a ceremony to sign the agreement for the purchase on May 6, Nguyễn Thanh Duy, CEO of TD Tech and representative of the US-based Accuray, a leading manufacturer of radiosurgery technology, said CyberKnife S7 is not only used for non-invasive cancer treatment but also for treating other conditions such as cerebrovascular malformations and arrhythmias.

As the latest generation in robotic radiosurgery, it is transforming cancer care through its minimally invasive capabilities, and is also allowing treatment of moving tumors, enhancing patient safety, shortening treatment times, and significantly minimising side effects, he claimed.

Its standout feature is its real-time image-guided radiotherapy and a robotic arm equipped with a linear accelerator delivering 6 MV photon beams.

With its flexible, three-dimensional movement in space, the system can accurately target tumors as small as one millimeter, enabling it to concentrate radiation directly on the tumor, it is claimed.

This also minimises radiation exposure for surrounding healthy tissue and reduces side effects, and reduces treatment duration to just one to five sessions in many cases, compared to 10–40 sessions for conventional radiotherapy.

Explaining the decision to buy the system, Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital, said: “This is a highly advanced, specialised cancer treatment system already adopted by major hospitals worldwide.

“It allows doctors to precisely target and destroy small cancerous cells in hard-to-reach areas throughout the body. With this investment, the Hope Cancer Treatment Center at FV Hospital will advance to become a regional leader in oncology care.”
