Unilever Vietnam was the only representative from Viet Nam to attend the 16th Asia Pacific Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production held in Thailand last week, affirming its pioneering position in plastic waste management.

At the event, Unilever Vietnam shared its experience in implementing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme to promote the implementation of the Circular Economy in plastic waste management in Viet Nam.

As a founding member of the PPP group in Viet Nam, Unilever has been a pioneer and proactive in promoting the circular economy model by building a waste separation system and handling more plastic waste than the amount of its sold packaging in the market.

Unilever Vietnam has collected, treated and recycled more than 17,000 tonnes of plastic waste, reaching 77 per cent of recyclable packaging, as well as reduced primary plastic by 55 per cent in packaging production thanks to direct reduction and use of recycled plastic.

“Unilever Vietnam has been persistently pursuing the circular economy model for many years. We are committed to investing in the community and working with partners, from policy to application practice, and continuously sharing knowledge and operating methods with the business community and partners,” said Le Thi Hong Nhi, Director of Communications and Public Relations at Unilever Vietnam. — VNS
