1st prize of Photo Contest - "Let's make a healthy ecosystem - our family" |
HA NOI (Biz Hub) - Together with Global Environment Day and Toyota Global Environment Month being implemented by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan, Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) has just implemented "Toyota Environment Month 2016" in TMV's plant with many meaningful activities. This is an annual activity that has been implemented by TMV since 2008, and aims at increasing awareness of environmental protection in all members of the TMV family, as well as further contributing towards environmental protection in Vietnam. These activities are gradually being introduced and implemented in TMV dealers and suppliers nationwide.
From 1973, TMC has chosen June of each year to be "Toyota Global Environment Month". And since 2003, this activity has been expanded to all Toyota's branches worldwide, including TMV.
This year, TMV's "Toyota Environment Month 2016" consists of the Toyota Eco Garden Contest, the Toyota Environment Photo Contest, and the Environmental Protection Commitment signing ceremony. Besides these activities, there are also many long-term energy saving practices being implemented that enhance environmental conservation in every work place and production plant nationwide, and the environment in general.

Organized within the two months of June and July, the Toyota Eco Garden Contest received a most positive welcome from all TMV members, thanks to the interesting and meaningful topic of the contest – to build green eco corners all around the work place. The contest encouraged all members to develop their knowledge about the environment, tree planting and care, aesthetic, environmentally friendly recycling materials, and together build green colorful mini gardens that bring a totally new appearance of a green, clean and beautiful workplace. The first prize of the Toyota Eco Garden contest 2016 went to a garden named "Colorful Garden" built by the Health – Safety – Environment Department of TMV.
Beside the Toyota Eco Garden Contest, the Toyota Photo contest is a new activity firstly organized in 2015 to raise awareness in members of the surrounding environment and awareness about biodiversity conservation through keeping images of beautiful and meaningful environmental moments taken by TMV members. After two months of organization, the contest has chosen the best three photos. The photo that won first prize with the message "Let's make a healthy ecosystem - our family" was sent to Toyota Asia Pacific to participate in the international contest organized for August 2016. Together with the participation of all TMV members in these environmental activities, also on this occasion, TMV's top management and leaders from all divisions joined the commitment signing ceremony to protect and conserve the environment with specific targets. With this commitment, TMV has set its target towards the "Toyota Environmental Challenge to 2050" that was published by TMC in Japan in October 2015.
In production activities, TMV always maintains energy saving activities such as turning off electric devices when not in use, improving air-conditioner efficiency and developing high-efficiency lighting technologies. As a result, the total amount of electricity used to produce a car in TMV plant has decreased from 373.4 kW/h in 2015 to 317.6 kW/h in 2016, meaning that TMV can save 55.8 kW/h of electricity from each car produced, and up to 2,546,098 kW/h each year.
In addition, TMV has also been investing millions of US dollars to build waste water treatment systems, meeting the standards of Vietnam (Reaching Standard of QCVN 40-2011/BTNMT column A – water can be used for daily activities). With the goal of "Continuously improving waste water quality", TMV continues to invest in waste water treatment stations, both facilities and human resources, by developing and putting into operation a nickel pre-treatment station, activated carbon filtration and disinfection systems, and continuously organizing advanced training courses to enhance awareness about environment protection in TMV members. To assure that every environmental standard is efficiently met, TMV continuously makes efforts towards innovation (kaizen), such as innovation in microbiological treatment systems to dispose of ammonium and nitrogen in daily waste water, and displaying the quality of each waste water treatment process to keep aware of any unusual issues.
