HA NOI (biz Hub) — The government has announced that a comprehensive probe will be launched into mobile carrier Mobifone's acquisition of a 95 per cent stake in multimedia company Audio Visual Global (AVG).
The inspection is expected to last for 50 business days and will be headed by chief inspector Le Quang Tiep of the Government Inspectorate.
The move came following a directive issued by the Party Secretariat on July 22 ordering a full inspection into the purchase, If any violation is found, the case will be transferred to the relevant agency for further criminal investigation.
In early 2016, Mobifone formally announced the acquisition of AVG to expand its television network, one of the company's four main areas of business. AVG's An Vien TV brand was later renamed MobiTV.
However details of the deal were not disclosed.
At the beginning of August, the government promulgated Document No. 1344/TTg, asking the Government Inspectorate to initiate an investigation into the acquisition. — VNS
