Tetra Pak has signed a cooperation agreement with Biopa Technology Company and Van Diem Paper Company to promote the recycling of used beverage cartons in northern Viet Nam.

Under the agreement, Van Diem Paper Company will be responsible for recycling used beverage cartons, while Biopa Technology Company will organise and manage the collection network in the north of Viet Nam. It is expected that by the end of 2023, Biopa and Van Diem will collect and recycle approximately 800 tonnes of used beverage cartons, with a goal of reaching 3,000 tons per year by 2025.

“Implementing collection and recycling on a large scale requires extensive participation from all stakeholders, including manufacturers, waste collectors, recyclers, consumers, and authorities. That is why Tetra Pak has been continuously seeking new partnerships to raise awareness and establish infrastructure to collect used beverage cartons in Viet Nam,” said Eliseo Barcas, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Vietnam.

"We will build and maintain the collection of used beverage cartons in the northern provinces and cities through Biopa's existing network as well as continuously establish new collection stations in industrial zones, apartment buildings, and other key areas," said Phan Cong Bang, General Director of Biopa Technology Company.

Le Manh Anh, Deputy General Director of Van Diem Paper Company, said: "The used beverage cartons can be recycled into many useful items such as notebooks and ecological roofing. Collaborating with Tetra Pak and Biopa will enable us to ensure and make the recycling carton supply more stable and effective."

This collaboration marks a major milestone for Tetra Pak, as the company continues to expand its partnership with recyclers to develop the collection and recycling infrastructure of beverage cartons in the north of Viet Nam.

This new initiative will support the entire value chain to fulfil its sustainability ambitions.
