Tech giant FPT’s FPT University on September 7 started working with Semiconductor JSC (FPT Semiconductor) to establish the Department for Semiconductors and Circuits.
The Department aims to train high-quality human resources for this industry and do research on microchips and semiconductors in order to enhance Viet Nam's national competitiveness in this field.
It is expected that this Department will officially train its first students in 2024, with an aim of providing in-depth training on semiconductor integrated circuit design and conducting research for the Vietnamese semiconductor chip industry.
FPT University also plans to work with leading universities from the US and Taiwan to conduct training programems and produce textbooks for students. They will cooperate with training facilities in this field to train and provide certifications and degrees from six months to two years for advanced training programmes for students in the field of microchips and semiconductors.
As a billion-dollar industry, the semiconductor industry is thirsty for human resources globally.
According to human resources experts, by 2030 the semiconductor industry will face a shortage of 1 million employees. Currently, trained employees from the US, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea are not enough, and the Southeast Asian market, especially Việt Nam, will get an opportunity to grasp this global demand, said Nguyễn Vinh Quang, Director of FPT Semiconductor.
Việt Nam’s Government has asked relevant ministries and bodies to quickly develop and implement a project to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry by 2030, and it is expected to train about 30,000-50,000 employees for this industry. — VNS
