Students at Vietnam USA Society English Centers (VUS) throughout the country have planted 1,370 trees on more than 3 hectares at the Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

They began planting the trees in May and continued until mid-July. The activity is part of the Run for the Earth programme of the Caring for the Earth project initiated last November by VUS in co-operation with the Gia Dinh Em Yeu Thien Nhien Viet Nam Organisation. The aim is to reduce waste, especially plastic waste, and environmentally damaging activities.

As many as 938 people ran a total of 2,579 kilometres. Each kilometre represented one tree. Of the total, 1,370 trees have been planted since May and the rest will be planted next summer.

Besides planting trees, children also learned about the lives of turtles to raise awareness of animal conservation. — VNS
