Nong Thon Viet magazine, the Green Vietnam Fund and the People’s Committee of Tan Hung District in Long An Province have broken ground for construction of nine bridges in the district.

Located in western Long An Province, Tan Hung District shares a 15.22-km border with Cambodia. The area has an underdeveloped transportation system with a dense network of canals.

The concrete bridges, measuring 4m in width with a minimum load of 5 tonnes, cost VND9 billion (US$388,892) funded by the Green Vietnam Fund.

The construction time will last for no more than six months, with some bridges to be completed soon to ease local travel during the peak rainy and flood season in September and October.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Le Thanh Yen, vice chairman of Tan Hung District People's Committee, said: “These bridges will create favourable conditions for residents to travel and transport input materials for agricultural production and agricultural products after harvest, enabling children to go to school safely during the rainy and flood season.”

Also, on the occasion, the Green Vietnam Fund donated VND1 billion to Tan Hung District to support the construction of the regiment 88 martyrs’ memorial in Vinh Dai Commune . — VNS
