Scholarships support underprivileged students

Scholarships worth US$7,650 from Lotte Shinkyuk-ho Global Scholarship were awarded to 17 underprivileged students at two universities, Đà Nẵng City’s foreign language and Đà Nẵng Economics Universities, to help them get through difficulties in study in 2023-24 term.

This is part of a scholarship programme by Lotte Shinkyuk-ho Global Scholarship supporting 163 poor students at 23 universities in Hà Nội, HCM City, Phú Yên and Đà Nẵng in 2024.

Director of Lotte Shinkyuk-ho Global Scholarship, Lee Seoung Hoon said the scholarship donation aims to create opportunities for Vietnamese students approaching to bright future by getting educational opportunities.

He said the scholarship committed to follow and support underprivileged students to hopeful future.

In 2017, Lotte Duty Free opened a store at Đà Nẵng International Airport, making it the first South Korean duty-free retailer to enter Việt Nam’s market.

The scholarship is one of annual cultural and tourism exchange programmes between Đà Nẵng and Korea in 2024.

Last year, Daegu-based Keimyung University from Korea presented scholarships to the best 30 school students in Đà Nẵng City in the 2023-24 terms in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties of Việt Nam and Korea.

School students from Đà Nẵng City also joined a cultural exchange programme in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi, South Korea last year.

Six universities from Korea signed education agreements with Đà Nẵng City’s Đông Á University in education, while five cities – Changwon, Daegu, Hwaseong, Seoul and Jeju officially inked friendship ties with Đà Nẵng.

The beach city is seen as the favourite destination for Korean tourists with more than 1 million Korean visitors in 2023. — VNS
