Saigon Co.op, which owns the Co.opmart supermarket chain, awarded scholarships on Saturday worth over VND640 million (US$28,180) to 92 poor students with good academic records who wish to work in the retail sector.
Nguyen Thanh Nhan, the Saigon Co.op’s general director, said in the last eight years since the scholarship programme was instituted, more than 650 poor students nation-wide had received the scholarships.
Students who get a scholarship will also get the opportunity to work part-time for Saigon Co.op as undergraduates and full-time after graduation.
The store chain operator also granted the Nguyen Duc Canh Scholarship and Young Talent Scholarship worth VND371 million ($16,280) to 78 students with outstanding academic achievements and who are children of its employees. — VNS
