India low cost airlines IndiGo will launch the first ever direct flights between India and Viet Nam next month, according to a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent in New Delhi.

The route between Kolkata and Ha Noi City will start on October 3 while the route between Kolkata and HCM City will start on October 18, 2019.

According to the airline’s website, prices will be around US$150 for a one-way ticket.

IndiGo's Chief Commercial Officer William Boulter said the airline had received encouraging feedback about the routes, adding that HCM has a large Buddhist community that will be non-transit connected to the Buddhist circuit in India through Kolkata. Currently IndiGo has many flight routes connecting to important tourist destinations for Buddhists.

“Viet Nam is one of the most promising destinations,” Boulter told Vietnamese media in June.

According to the website livemint.com, IndiGo is India's largest domestic carrier, in terms of market share. Viet Nam will be the fifth South East Asian country in the airline's network after Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Myanmar. — VNS
