The Tam Nong Co-operative was launched in HCM City on July 2 to help farmers develop high-quality produce and promote organic agriculture.

It would also seek to address the problem of volatile prices and find foreign markets for Vietnamese produce, Nguyen The Manh, its chairman, said.

“The co-operative will also focus on researching, applying and exploiting high-tech agriculture, supplying inputs, guaranteeing outlets for produce, and exporting it.”

It recently partnered with French enterprises to manufacture bamboo household items, Manh said.

Pham Van Luan of the Cu Chi District People’s Committee said the co-operative, which has its main office in the district, would help local farmers access quality seeds.

It would also help accelerate the process of restructuring local agribusinesses, making Cu Chi District a hi-tech agricultural hub, he said.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, co-operatives are critical for restructuring the agricultural sector and making it sustainable. — VNS
