HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — BASF, a world leading chemicals company, has begun to market its crop protection products directly in Viet Nam, rather than use a network of distributors as it did previously.

Leon Van Mullekom, the company's Business Director for Crop Protection in Southeast Asia, said that the new development will help to bring his company's products, including recent ones that come out every year, to farmers on a more regular and consistent basis.

Its products help to increase a crops yield per hectare, by adapting to drought, controlling weeds and improving the quality of crops.

As part of this move, BASF will double its expert field team of 30 over a two year period to provide training to local farmers and help them to develop in general.

They will visit farmers to provide expertise on every aspect of crop development, as well as facilitating the exchange of experience and information between farmers and industry experts.

BASF is also currently considering setting up an AgSolution farm, which will showcase innovations in agriculture, to farmers, partners and BASF employees. BASF operates AgSolution farms around the world, including Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.

The multi-national's portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, oil and gas to crop protection products. — VNS
