NHA TRANG (Biz Hub) — Team LH-Q from Lac Hong University won the first match of the final round of the 2014 Robocon Viet Nam after defeating team LH-FIRE from the same school.
The final round will take place from May 6 to 11 in Nha Trang City in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa. It has attracted 32 teams from universities and colleges from three regions of the country. The participating teams are divided into eight groups to play in a round robin format. Teams that rank first and second in each group will qualify for the next round.
With the theme "A salute to the Parenthood," the contest aims at honouring parents for their immense contribution. The rule of the contest requires the teams to design and make a robot family with one hand-controlled parent robot and an automatic child robot. The parent robot has to carry the child robot to the play zone and allow it to play three games—seesaw, swing and pole walk.
Once the child robot completes the three games, it can challenge itself with a fourth, which is located in the middle of the park. The team that completes first will accomplish "SHABAASH" (appreciation) and is declared "the winner." If none of the teams is able to complete the tasks, the winner will be decided from the maximum points gained in the games.
In between the matches in the final round, Toyota Motor Viet Nam and Viet Nam Television (VTV) will present high-technology products with high applications in real life.
Matches will be broadcast live at 8 pm on VTV2 channel. The awards and closing ceremony will be live streamed at 8 pm on May 11 on VTV2 and VTV3 channels.
The winning team will represent Viet Nam to compete at the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) in August in India. — VNS
