HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – Starbucks, the giant American coffee company, opened its second store in HCM City on Thursday, just six months after making its initial appearance in Viet Nam.

"Our customers in HCM City have extended a very warm welcome to us over the last six months and we are thrilled to open our second store in the city," said Patricia Marques, general manager of Coffee Concepts Viet Nam, a subsidiary of Hong Kong Maxim's Group.

Starbucks entered Viet Nam under a licensing agreement with the Maxim's Group.

Marques told Biz Hub that "the way Starbucks approaches the market is very conservative," and that the new store was in a good location, at the crossroads of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Du streets in District 1.

When asked about the revenue and number of daily customers at the first Starbucks store, Marques declined to comment. But she did reveal that the company was happy with its performance, describing the area as a "successful market." "We are here to stay," she said.

Marques said that the company would expand to other provinces but no "specific day" had been designated. "The third store will be in HCM City," she said.

As part of the opening celebrations, Starbucks is donating all transactions from the morning of its opening day to the Mai am Ga Sai Gon (Saigon Station Shelter).

The shelter, a charity house under the Woman's Charity Association of HCM City, takes care of 20 girls aged 6-16, who need financial support to attend school. — VNS
