HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Issues related to using rhinophalt to preserve road surfaces were discussed at a seminar in HCM City on Thursday.

Jointly organised by the Institute of Transport Science and Technology, Doanh Bao An Company Ltd, Britain's ASI Solutions and Switzerland's IVA companies, the seminar attracted scientists, experts from research institutes, universities, and consulting agencies, transport executives, and others.

A preventative maintenance product designed to stop surface defects before they happen, rhinophalt is used in many countries including the UK, Germany, India, China, and Malaysia.

"Rhinophalt is a cold spray penetrative preservative which extends surface course life. It is fast and safe, [has] quick cure times and [causes] minimal traffic disruption," Jerry Tonge, CEO of ASI Solution, said.

The material helps increase asphalt surface life, eliminate unplanned repairs, delay resurfacing and improve road availability, he said.

Trials by the Ministry of Transportation found rhinophalt slows the ageing process of asphalt, penetrates water-proof pavement asphalt, has high economic efficiency and benefits the environment.

The ministry has allowed its use in the country, and in April issued temporary instructions to use the substance in maintaining asphalt concrete pavements. — VNS
