HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) remains at the top of the 500 Vietnamese biggest enterprises list (VNR500), a position it has held many years since the list was first drawn up seven years ago.

In the list released on December 3 by the Viet Nam Report Company and online newspaper VietnamNet, the oil giant was followed by Samsung, Viet Nam National Petroleum Group, Viet Nam Electricity, and Viettel Group.

State firms accounted for eight of the top 10 positions.

The revenues of the top 10 accounted for nearly 39 per cent of the top 500 firms' turnover.

While the VNR500 primarily considers revenues, it also takes into account profits, growth rates, labour, owner's equity, and total assets.

This year it sees 160 new entrants, more 40 per cent of them private and 23 per cent foreign owned.

The list of 500 biggest private firms was also released, with Doji Gold and Gems Group in top place.

It is followed by Viet Nam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company or Vinamilk, Intimex Group Joint Stock Company, FPT Corporation, and Asia Commercial Bank.

An awards ceremony to honour the 500 is planned to be held in Ha Noi next month.
