HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vinacomin Mining Chemical Industrial Holding Corporation (MICCO) launched a trial run of its first ammonium nitrate plant in northern Thai Binh province on October 17.

A consortium led by ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions of Germany constructed the US$280-million plant, a light house engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project, as scheduled.

The MICCO plant will provide 80 per cent of the country's current demand for ammonium nitrate, which comes mainly from Chinese sources.

The Thai Binh Provincial Industry and Trade Department said the plant was significant, as ammonium nitrate accounted for about 90 per cent of the content of explosives used in the mining industry.

According to MICCO, the plant, with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year, will contribute about VND120 billion ($5.7 million) to the State budget per year and provide employment for more than 150 workers. It will be fully operational by early 2015.— VNS
