HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Indexes in Japan, Hong Kong and Malaysia ended lower on July 18, after a Malaysian jet crashed in Ukraine. However, the rest rose.
Japanese stocks fell to a one-week low when the Nikkei 225 lost 154.55 points to close the day at 15,215.71 in Tokyo, and the Topix Index also decreased 10.09 points to close the day at 1,263.29.
The Hang Seng Index also dropped 66.08 points to 23,454.79 in Hong Kong, while the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index slipped 10.17 points, to close at 1,872.97 in Malaysia.
On the other hand, the Shanghai Composite Index still closed up 3.48 points to finish at 2,059.07 in mainland China. The Straits Times Index added 3.64 points to stand at 3,310.5 in Singapore.
Two bourses in Viet Nam also ended higher. The VN Index rose 1 per cent or 5.89 points to close at 596.26 in HCM City, and the HNX Index also gained 0.37 points to end at 81.14 in the capital city.— VNS
