VinCommerce General Commercial Service JSC, the owner of VinMart and VinMart+, has won the award for “Green Retailer” from the Federation of Asia-Pacific Retailers Association, or FAPRA.

The ceremony was held in Chongqing last week.

FAPRA hailed VinMart and VinMart + for implementing the "Three green" programmes -- Green VinMart, Green Customers and Green Suppliers -- to protect the environment.

They have replaced plastic bags with bio-degradable bags, use paper straws and cups at food counters, gift VND1,000 to customers using reusable bags, collect used batteries to send them to treatment factories and among others.

They have more than 2,200 retail points, serving more than 20 million customers a month.

Launched in 2009, the biennial FAPRA awards are meant to honour companies, business groups and individuals for outstanding achievements in the retail industry in five categories -- most innovative retail concept, green retailer, best marketing campaign, customer service excellence, and best effort in retail employee training.

They are given away during the Asia Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition, one of retail industry's biggest regional events. — VNS
