E-commerce platform Shopee has announced to get new records in its recent 11.11 Big Sale.

It said shoppers across Southeast Asia bought over two billion items during the festival period, breaking its previous record in 2020.

On November 11 visits were 5.5 times up compared to normal days in the first two hours, it said.

Tran Tuan Anh, managing director of Shopee Vietnam said: “It brings us great joy to see the impact of our efforts on shoppers, businesses and the local community. The digital economy and e-commerce continue to present many opportunities for growth. We want to enable more people to benefit from this growth by increasing e-commerce adoption and helping more consumers and businesses come online.”

Shopee said the 11.11 Big Sale encouraged more people to enjoy the benefits of online shopping, especially in rural areas and smaller towns, where digital awareness is relatively low.

Across the region, more shoppers used ShopeePay to pay for their Shopee orders seamlessly, especially outside big cities where ShopeePay transactions were nine times up compared to a normal days.

For businesses, the event was a springboard for growth and recovery, with those joining 11.11 for the first time seeing their orders on the 11th soar 18 times.

Many shoppers took the opportunity to buy premium beauty and fashion items, with Shopee Premium brands seeing sales surge by an average of 50 times. — VNS
