The AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company in collaboration with the Quang Ninh Society for Disadvantaged Children handed over 170 scholarships, worth VND1.2 million (US$51.5) each, to children from low-income families in Cam Pha City on Wednesday.

This is the third year the company has donated scholarships to disadvantaged children living near Mong Duong 2 Power Plant.

The scholarships aim to motivate children to advance their studies and help their parent to cover educational costs.

“Along with operating the power plant sustainably, we committed to invest in improving live for the communities where we operate. Education is always one of the top priorities of the company’s CSR programme as it is an important factor to improve the living standards and ensure sustainable development of the communities,” said Kevin Pierce, Power Plant Manager at the event.

“We expect to expand this programme in coming years to increase the number of the beneficiaries so that more disadvantaged children will receive better support in the future,” added Pierce.

The donation is part of the company’s CSR initiatives focusing on education, healthcare, livelihood restoration and environment protection for local communities of Mong Duong 2 Power Plant.
