Netflix wants to invest in Viet Nam and is committed to complying with Vietnamese laws and paying adequate taxes, Netflix's Managing Director for Asia Pacific Kuek Yu-Chuang has said.

Chuang delivered the statement during a meeting with the Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung in Ha Noi on Monday.

He also suggested a Memorandum of Understanding be inked between Netflix and the ministry on buying Vietnamese films to air on its network, co-operating in human resource training and exporting Vietnamese films to international markets.

According to Chuang, Netflix is currently providing services in 190 countries and territories around the world.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said foreign enterprises which come to do business in Viet Nam have to fully comply with Vietnamese laws.

Besides broadcasting Vietnamese films, Hung suggested Netflix work with local companies to produce films to meet the entertainment needs of Vietnamese audiences and subscribers in other markets who may watch Vietnamese content.

Viet Nam is striving to develop the local firm industry into one of the most influential in Southeast Asia.

Focus will be given to innovative film creation, production, distribution, human resource development, technology transfer, investment, international co-operation and socialised film activities nationwide.

Under the strategy, 20 per cent of all films produced should be exported to other markets by 2020 and there should be a 15 per cent increase in the number of films produced in partnership with foreign partners. VNS
