Global cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group inked a memorandum of understanding in Moscow last week to bolster Viet Nam’s cybersecurity capability as the country’s digital initiative goes full throttle, the Russian company announced on May 28.

The signing was witnessed by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc who was on an official visit to Russia.

Stephan Neumeier, Kaspersky’s managing director for Asia Pacific, said: “Kaspersky Lab and VNPT acknowledge that we are experts in our respective fields and we both aim to share our capabilities and resources to provide better ICT solutions to Vietnamese consumers.

“Viet Nam’s private and public organisations are set to achieve one goal --- to transform the country into a digital society, and as a cybersecurity company we are here to share our expertise to keep the growing country safe from lurking cybercriminals.”

The MoU signed by Kaspersky Lab and VNPT includes collaborating through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building and training in cybersecurity.

Yeo Siang Tiong, general manager, Southeast Asia, Kaspersky Lab, said: “We consider Viet Nam a very important market. Its young population and its consistent drive towards becoming digital make it an attractive target for malicious hackers.

“It is very essential for organisations and individuals to be more aware of the present threats and to also be more equipped with holistic defences that will keep them safe."

According to VNPT, the partnership is in line with its digital transformation strategy with the aim to be the leading digital service provider in the region. — VNS
