Grab Vietnam has announced a partnership with Support and Development of Sustainable Living Communities (Song Foundation) for the Grab for Good Forest project with a commitment to make a donation from the first one million rides to reduce carbon emissions.

The programme is in response to a commitment to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050 made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

It is estimated that with this contribution, Grab and the Song Foundation plan to plant approximately five hectares of upstream forest in Thuan Nam Town in the south-central Ninh Thuan Province.

It will also help preserve groundwater for people's daily use and support sustainable socio-economic development in the locality.

Besides, the project will include the Grab for Good mission to protect the environment and develop green mobility solutions to create a sustainable environment for future generations.

Grab for Good Forest will become a part of the ‘Forest Symphony Ninh Thuan - Trong Rung GiuNuoc’ programme implemented by the Song Foundation and the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development since 2020.

In a survey of Grab users in Viet Nam, 96 per cent said they are very concerned about climate change and are taking action to reduce carbon emissions.

Among the respondents who did not care about climate change, 48 per cent said the reason was because they did not know how to act.

From November 15 users have been able to join hands with Grab and the Song Foundation to reduce carbon emissions by opting for the Carbon Offset feature and pay a nominal VND2,000 when they book a GrabCar ride and VND1,000 for a GrabBike ride.

All the donations will be transferred directly to the Song Foundation to plant watershed forests in Thuan Nam Town. — VNS
