Sixty outstanding students at 11 universities in HCM City received scholarships worth US$800 per year each from the Lotte Scholarship Foundation at a ceremony in HCM City on May 23 after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chun Yung Woo, Lotte Scholarship Foundation’s chairman, said, “the Lotte Scholarship Fund attaches great importance to supporting outstanding Vietnamese students to accomplish their dreams and develop into talents who can contribute to the development of the country.”
Starting from this year, Lotte begins a programme to also provide scholarships and dormitories for Vietnamese university students studying in Korea, he said.
Ton Nu Hong Nhung, a student from the Industrial University of HCM City, one of the awardees, said the scholarship will be “a great help to me in lightening my financial burden and allows me to concentrate more of my time on studying.”
Kwon Sun Chil, the Korean Deputy Consul General in HCM City, said that the scholarship programme had greatly contributed to nurturing talented Vietnamese and strengthening the Viet Nam-Korea friendship.
Since 2008, the foundation has given scholarships worth a total $1.03 million to 3,170 outstanding students in Viet Nam. — VNS
