Thanh Hoa approves a hemp factory

HÀ NỘI (Biz Hub) —The People's Committee of northern Thanh Hoa Province has approved a VNĐ628 billion (US$28 million) project of a yarn factory and a hemp plantation area in local Cẩm Thủy District.

According to the project investor An Phước Investment, Import Export JSC, the project includes a hemp knitting factory with the capacity 3,000 tonnes of hemp material and 3,600 tonnes of fabric per year on an area of 40 hectares in Cẩm Tú Commune.

It will also build a hemp material zone to provide fibre products for the textile and garment industry. Hemp fibres which are longer, stronger, more absorbent and more mildew-resistant than cotton, are used in the making of jeans.

The project will contribute to the local restructuring of the agricultural sector and creating jobs for the locals.

Construction of the project is expected to start this April and it will begin operations in February. 2017. — VNS
