GSMA and VDCA will also share technical expertise, promote industry events and convene stakeholders through thought leadership platforms.

HÀ NỘI — The GSM Association (GSMA) and the Việt Nam Digital Communications Association (VDCA), on Wednesday, announced a new collaboration to deepen co-operation to accelerate Việt Nam’s mobile and digital communications ecosystem.
The partnership is a global imperative to bring Việt Nam’s rapidly rising tech economy to the forefront of the world stage.
Through the partnership, GSMA and VDCA will focus on how the mobile ecosystem can help support the Vietnamese Government’s Information and Communication Infrastructure Plan 2021-30, which includes expanding broadband infrastructure to cover 99 per cent of the population with 5G networks by 2030, promoting environmentally sustainable digital infrastructure, creating innovation zones to accelerate technological development and positioning Việt Nam as a regional hub for network and data security.
GSMA and VDCA will also share technical expertise, promote industry events and convene stakeholders through thought leadership platforms. GSMA will contribute through its global work on spectrum policy and cybersecurity frameworks.
Resources such as the GSMA Mobile Threat Intelligence Framework (MoTIF), guidelines on fraud prevention and quantum-safe technology, and global best practices on regulatory governance will be made available to support Việt Nam’s strategic goals.
This collaboration is set against the backdrop of Việt Nam’s emergence as a rising digital economy with global potential. Mobile technologies and services contributed over $20 billion to Việt Nam’s economy in 2023, and the number of mobile internet users continues to rise steadily. By 2030, 5G is expected to account for nearly one-third of all mobile connections, supporting innovation across industries.
The partnership will also help the VDCA and Việt Nam's digital communications ecosystem plug into the GSMA’s global network of mobile innovation. As the home of MWC Barcelona and the M360 series, GSMA convenes the world’s mobile leaders to solve industry and societal challenges. The MoU with VDCA signals a shared commitment to ensure Vietnam’s innovation journey is showcased on the global stage.
Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific, GSMA, said: "Việt Nam is quickly becoming one of the region’s most exciting digital markets. Our partnership with VDCA reflects a shared commitment to shaping a future where innovation, inclusion and resilience go hand in hand. We’re excited to co-host the Digital Nations Summit in Hà Nội and work together to accelerate progress in broadband access and cybersecurity."
GSMA and VDCA will also discuss how they help accelerate Việt Nam at the GSMA Digital Nation Summit Hanoi, taking place on 15 April 2025 at the Sheraton West Hanoi Hotel.
The summit will bring together senior government leaders, global tech companies and industry experts to explore how emerging technologies – including AI, GSMA Open Gateway, and Open RAN – can power Việt Nam’s next phase of digital development. — VNS
