Huawei promotes global 5G security standards at Việt Nam Security Summit 2025

While 5G is unlocking transformative potential across industries through ultra-fast data, real-time communication and massive IoT connectivity, its complex and distributed architecture poses significant new risks.

HCM CITY — At the Việt Nam Security Summit 2025 held in HCM City last week, Huawei emphasised the urgent need for international cybersecurity standards to safeguard 5G networks and strengthen digital infrastructure resilience.

In his keynote speech, Louis Lou, Vice President of Cybersecurity & Privacy Protection at Huawei, offered a presentation on 'Building Cyber Resilience and Reducing Risks'. He highlighted that critical sectors — from healthcare and energy to telecommunications — are facing increasing cyber threats, underscoring the need for a comprehensive security approach.

Lou noted that while 5G is unlocking transformative potential across industries through ultra-fast data, real-time communication, and massive IoT connectivity, its complex and distributed architecture poses significant new risks. Features like edge computing and network slicing blur traditional security boundaries, increasing vulnerabilities.

To address these challenges, Lou urged broader adoption of global standards such as GSMA’s NESAS (Network Equipment Security Assurance Scheme) and MCKB (Mobile Cybersecurity Knowledge Base). Developed by GSMA and 3GPP, NESAS has been recognised by over 20 countries and has helped secure more than one million 5G base stations worldwide. Huawei is the first global vendor to pass NESAS/SCAS security evaluations.

He also outlined a three-phase model for implementing MCKB, from securing device configurations to offering safe enterprise-level 5G services. Huawei encourages operators to assess cybersecurity maturity across nine key categories using 239 security controls in a structured, end-to-end approach.

Lou reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to working with Vietnamese telecom operators and government agencies to develop secure, resilient 5G networks. Alongside advanced products and solutions, Huawei pledged ongoing support for innovation, training and security capability building to support Việt Nam’s digital transformation. — BIZHUB/VNS
