FrieslandCampina Vietnam has taken part in a programme titled Plastic Waste Prevention in response to the Making the World Cleaner Campaign initiated by Australia in 1993 and launched globally by the United Nations Environment Programme.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and other foreign and domestic organisations.
At the launching ceremony held on October 12, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha said pollution, especially of the oceans, by plastic waste was becoming an urgent global problem.
It was necessary to take action to reduce plastic wastes, including by decreasing the use of plastic products such as bags, especially single-use ones, he said.
He called on every individual, organisation and enterprise to join hands to resolve the problem.
As one of companies joining the ministry to carry out the programme, FrieslandCampina Vietnam promised to collect plastic waste at its factories for recycling.
It also is carrying out other programmes to collect plastic waste at schools around the country.
It is working with the ministry’s Natural Resources and Environment Communication Centre and relevant local agencies to undertake educational programmes on the harmful influence of plastic products to improve public awareness of the need to reduce the use of nylon bags in daily life.
In August the company had signed an agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for the Green Environment programme in 2018-21 to show its commitment to environmental protection-based operations in Viet Nam. — VNS
