Telephone imports from US soar

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vietnamese imports of telephones and components from the US soared by up to 1,288 per cent in the first eight months with turnover of US$25.6 million.

According to statistics from Viet Nam's General Customs Department, the country exported telephones and components worth $22.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.9 per cent, online newspaper VOV reported.

Meanwhile, the country's import turnover saw a year-on-year decrease of nine per cent at $6.5 billion.

Viet Nam imported telephones and components mainly from China, accounting for nearly 59 per cent of the total turnover, followed by South Korea and Hong Kong.

In general, in the first eight months of this year, markets for imported telephones and components witnessing positive growth rate accounted for only 37.5 per cent, whereas markets seeing negative growth accounted for 62.5 per cent.

Notably, while Vietnamese imports of telephones and components from the US surged, imports from markets such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Sweden and Japan sharply decreased.

In particular, imports from Taiwan fell up to nearly 68 per cent. — VNS
