HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Ministry of Information and Communications has issued a decision prescribing the functions, duties, powers and organisational structure of Open Source Software and Cloud Computing Centre.

Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Bac Son signed Decision No. 1756/QD-BTTTT on November 24. It took effect on the same day.

The centre will replace the Information Technology and Communication Training Centre, which was regulated in Decision No. 1641/QD-BTTTT that the information and communications minister issued on October 31, 2008.

The ministry's Vietnam National Institute of Software and Digital Content Industry will manage the new centre, which is headquartered at Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in Ha Noi City's Thach That District.

The centre will be in charge of doing research, enhancing technology transfer and training qualified human resources in the fields of software and digital content.

It will also offer information technology (IT) services to develop IT and communication infrastructure and set up national data.

It will contribute to boosting IT application in government agencies, education and training institutes, health care services and environment monitoring agencies, as well as disaster warning and climate change response offices.

The centre will also provide consulting services on software and digital content and support research and development on new ideas and new technologies in these fields. — VNS
