Mitsubishi Motors Viet Nam has handed over four hybrid SUV models including the i-MIEV and Outlander plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) as well as two quick chargers to the Central Power Corporation (CPC) for operation in Da Nang city.

The corporation said this is a progressive step of a co-operation agreement between them that was signed last year.

In 2017, CPC, in co-operation with Mitsubishi Motors Viet Nam delivered the country’s first electric vehicle quick charger system alongside two electric cars in the central city.

CPC, under the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), said that the operation of electric cars aims to boost the utility of ‘green’ vehicle use in the tourism hub and reduce green house gas emissions.

CPC also constructed solar panels on the roof of its head office in Da Nang using Mitsubishi solar cells, as part of a campaign promoting renewable energy consumption in the city.

The Japanese car maker plans to co-operate with Da Nang in the production of battery-powered cars in the future.

The central city has so far licensed 20 battery and solar powered cars to serve tourists in popular sites since 2012.

Da Nang also plans to build the first solar farm in the country, connecting to the national grid. The farm will be constructed on a 6.7ha plot of land of the closed Khanh Son Landfill in Lien Chieu District, at a cost of US$5 million.

It will have a capacity of 4.4MWp (megawatts photovoltaic), helping to eradicate close to 5,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

According to a report prepared by the city’s Industry and Trade Department, around 30 per cent of the city’s population use solar power for water heaters, while around 20 five-star hotels and resorts are using a solar power water heating system. — VNS
