SINGAPORE (Biz Hub) — The largest colour manufacturer worldwide, AkzoNobel ColourFutures, has named teal as the colour for 2014 at the ongoing World Architecture Festival 2013 in Singapore.
Teal represents balance as well as sophistication, tranquility and versatility, the company said.
Jeremy Rowe, managing director of AkzoNobel Decorative Paints for Southeast Asia and Pacific said AkzoNobel, introduced ColourFutures to anticipate trends in the future.
The colour of the year was chosen by a panel of international colour experts assembled by Akzonobel's Global Aesthetic Center.
Centre members met with an international group of creative experts throughout the world from the fields of design, architecture and fashion to determine the key colour trends for 2014.
The theme for next year is "Unlocking Potential" to encourage the world to harness and explore the potential found in everyday spaces such as in homes, offices, schools, and even factories.
In addition to the colour of the year, ColourFutures also has identified five colour design trends for interior and exterior decoration, and as presented palettes of complementary colours.
The five trends are "silent revolution, urban folk, margin of proof, secret garden, and do-it-now".
The centre forms ColourFutures each year.
2013 marked a decade of ColourFutures' existence. Since its introduction in 2004, the ColourFutures has earned global recognition and is now the source of colour inspiration for professionals in industries such as interior, industrial, product, fashion and architecture design. —VNS
