HA NOI (Biz Hub) — South Korea's Samsung Electronics received a licence on November 11 to start the construction of its factory in Viet Nam's northern Thai Nguyen province, the Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper reported.
The US$3-billion factory, Samsung's second one in Thai Nguyen, will produce electronic parts for Samsung smartphones and employ 30,000 workers. It will be built in close proximity to Samsung's first factory in the province, which has a total investment of $2 billion and became operational last March.
With the new project, the world largest smartphone maker's total investment in Viet Nam is now $11.2 billion, making Samsung the biggest investor in the country. As of October 31, Samsung VN has earned $21.5 billion in exports, representing 20 per cent of Viet Nam's total export value. — VNS
