Online Friday sale reaches $7.23 million

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Traders recorded a sale of VND154 billion (US$7.23 million) in the first ever Online Friday event in Viet Nam, announced the Vietnam E-Commerce and Information Technology Agency (VEITA) on December 29.

VEITA said that more than 1,000 traders who showcased 3,226 products participated in the shopping event held on the first Friday of December (Dec. 5) via two websites, ngaymuasamtructuyen.vn and onlinefriday.vn.

The sites accumulated 10.6 million page views from 1.9 million visitors. Traders also obtained 160,000 orders online, which is 3.2 times higher than those recorded during ordinary days.

The VEITA said that hi-tech devices, fashion and consumer products accounted for more than 80 per cent of the total orders.

The association said that Online Friday aims to create opportunities for e-commerce enterprises, banks, delivery companies and online shops to seek trade co-operation and improve quality of service for the customers.

Vietnam E-commerce Association General Secretary Nguyen Thanh Hung disclosed that the payment methods, such as cash-on-delivery and e-banking transfer, were favoured at 72 per cent and 13 per cent respectively. The e-payment system, such as the e-wallet and Internet banking, made up 11 per cent. Meanwhile, mobile banking accounted for 2 per cent.

With regard to the quality of shipping service, Hung said that half of the participating sellers were unsatisfied, with nine per cent rating it as poor. However, the payment service fared well with 62 per cent responding positively. Meanwhile, 27 per cent rated it average and only one per cent rated it poor.

The second Online Friday event will be held in Viet Nam on the first Friday of December next year. — VNS
